Slow Cooker Italian Beef Sandwiches
One of our favorite family meals are slow cooker Italian beef sandwiches. It never lasts long, especially with the kids.
I swear, they can eat an entire roast themselves so we end up doubling or tripling the recipes.
Yes.. tripling the ingredients!
Luckily, we have a large crockpot so we can fit two-three roasts in there at a time.
Now, you may remember that we shared an instant pot Italian beef recipe a while back. That recipe is just as good, but this is my favorite version. I just love it when it’s slow-cooked!
How To Make Slow Cooker Italian Beef Sandwiches
These easy crockpot Italian beef sandwiches are a set and go type of dinner recipe. You don’t need to shred the meat until you are ready to eat, but we like to have it soak up all of the good juices.
This recipe makes approximately 6 sandwiches.
- 3 c beef broth
- tsp salt
- a tsp of ground pepper
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp Dried onion
- 1 tsp Dried parsley
- tsp garlic powder
- A Bay leaf
- package of dry Italian dressing mix
- 3-4 lbs chuck roast
- ½ cup chopped pepperoncini
- ¼ cup pepperoncini juice
- hoagie buns
- sliced mozzarella or provolone cheese (optional)
Cooking the Italian Beef Sandwiches in the crock pot
- Combine beef broth, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, diced onion, parsley, garlic powder, Bay leaf, and Italian salad dressing mix. Just mix it all together in the slow cooker.
- Put the roast in the broth mixture slow cooker.
- Add chopped pepperoncinis and pepperoncini liquid.
- Cover and cook on low for approximately 8-10 hours or until the meat is easy to pull apart.
- Once it is finished, take out the Bay leaf.
- Shred meat with two forks. My grandmother always uses a mixer to shred the Italian beef so you can use a fork or a mixer.
Now, you can create your sandwiches. Add your favorite cheese, we like provolone but you can also use mozzarella. You can also add some extra peppers to your sandwich for a kick of spice.
Italian beef sandwiches are even better the next day, so be sure to save your leftovers!
Toast the bread for extra flavor
Some like their Italian beef on plain hoagie rolls. We like to change it up a bit sometimes and toast the bread first. If we have the extra time, we place just a little bit of butter on the rolls and brown them in the skillet.
Browning it in the skillet just gives them an extra buttery taste and doesn’t make them soggy. Just be sure not to put a ton of butter on there, a little will go along way.
