Outdoor Fall Family Activities To Celebrate Autumn
I’m always looking for outdoor fall family activities to celebrate autumn. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons because the weather is cooler and the scenery is beautiful.
The autumn season brings to mind crisp days with brilliant colors of red, yellow, and orange dotting the trees and landscape as the weather changes.
For me, this is the best time to be outside and take part in outdoor fall family activities! Take advantage of the cooler temperatures by enjoying nature and reveling in the change of seasons.
Enjoy the Fall Scenery
Spending time in nature has been known to help reduce stress and promote relaxation. And there’s nothing like breathing that fresh air!
Even just a walk, either leisurely or more briskly if you want to get in some power exercise, will expose you to the beauty of the season. Note how your neighborhood, park, walking trails, and overall landscape as your city changes.
While we are out on our fall walk walks enjoying the scenery, the kids love to pick up rocks for their rock collection.
Grab a blanket and head to your nearest park or backyard with a thermos of hot cider, pumpkin spiced coffee. You can also take some hot cocoa and enjoy sights, sounds, and fresh air. Photograph what you notice. Find that gorgeous leaf full of brilliant colors and marvel at what nature can do. And most all, take a deep breath and relax.
Take Part in Fall Activities
The fall season brings an abundance of outdoor activities that you can enjoy with friends and family. Here are just a few of our favorites:
- Visit a pumpkin patch so you can pick out fall pumpkins.
- Go apple picking to make your favorite sweet and savory apple recipes.
- Go hiking in the woods or on your favorite trails.
- Take the whole family on bike rides to enjoy the scenery around your neighborhood.
- Schedule a fun family camping trip so you can sleep under the stars.
- Attend your local fall fairs and festivals.
When weather permits, get outside and enjoy these activities. Bring the kids and pick apples so you can make apple pie, homemade applesauce, or candied apples later. Choose pumpkins for fall decorating or carving for Halloween.
There are so many things you can do with pumpkins, apples, or other fall fruits. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Soft Bakery Style Pumpkin Cookies or other Pumpkin Cookie Recipes
- Pumpkin Popsicles
- Pumpkin Carrot Cake
No matter what you do, it is all about making memories with your family and friends during this beautiful change of season.
Exercise Outdoors
Refocus your fitness routine to include outdoor family-friendly activities. You’ll be surrounded by nature and inhaling clean air provided for you thanks to Mother Nature. The weather will be perfect for cardio exercises like running, walking, or biking.
If you’ve never practiced yoga outside, this is the time to do so! Grab your mat or just ground yourself in the grass.
Consider what time of day you exercise. You might find it relaxing to be outside to watch the sunrise or change to an evening run and catch the sunset. While your exercise activity may remain the same, let nature provide its ever-changing backdrop as a reminder of its beauty.
