20 Awesome Homemade Chocolate Snacks For Kids
Kids and chocolate go hand-in-hand, which is why a great chocolate snack is always a win. Whether the kids are home from school for the day, hanging out by the pool on a warm summer day, or just lounging on the couch for family movie night, nothing is better than a chocolate snack. It’s the ultimate comfort dessert, and it’s a win through and through. However, it’s the homemade chocolate snacks that always taste the best, and they’re made with heart.
One thing to consider is your own children and their tastes. Additionally, do consider their health needs and their dietary restrictions. Many of these recipes can be altered to turn them in to gluten-free versions of the same recipe, vegan, vegetarian, and more. Your kids might not even know the difference if you make them using a healthier option, either. It’s up to you. The point is that your kids are going to be excited that you took the time to make them one of their favorite snacks – and these will become their favorite snacks.
However, not all homemade chocolate snacks for the kids need to be extravagant. You don’t necessarily need ample time and many ingredients to make these snacks. Pick and choose, make it as elaborate as you want, or follow the recipes included. Your kids will remember the fact that you made them chocolate snacks when they were growing up – they won’t remember whether those snacks were elaborate or quickly thrown together.
1. Chocolate Brownies
Everyone loves a brownie, so this simple recipe is one of the best for kids. You can make them a little more fun by adding some fun toppings or by serving them warm with ice cream on top – it makes the perfect snack. You can also just make them from the box at the supermarket, which is still homemade but not quite so time-consuming.
2. Chocolate Chip Cookies
There are so many amazing recipes around, and this is a good one. You can also buy cookie dough that’s already premade and simply bake them. It won’t take long, but it will work for you – and your kids likely won’t know the difference. Make them without gluten, without dairy, or however you like. There are always alternative options available for every recipe on the internet. A simple Google search is all you need to help you find what you’re looking for.
3. Chocolate Pudding
Buy it already made or make your own – these are homemade snacks, of course. But you can also home make things that aren’t entirely homemade, if you know what I mean. Pudding is a simple concept because it doesn’t take long to make, and it is something a little lighter than anything else.
4. Chocolate Ice Cream Sundaes
Who doesn’t love chocolate ice cream? Now who doesn’t love ice cream sundaes? You don’t have to add a banana, but you can also add anything you want. It’s easy to make this yourself since you have ice cream in the freezer, and that’s all you need other than some toppings. Just grab the kids’ favorite toppings and keep them on hand to make this work.
5. Chocolate Covered Strawberries
These are a favorite of my own children. They love when I make these, and they are entirely homemade. They also don’t take long at all. I love a dark chocolate to use as a dip. To make them a little faster and less messy, I like to put them on parchment paper on a tray and stick them in the fridge for 15 minutes or so. They set faster, and they’re colder and more fun to eat this way.
6. Chocolate Covered Pretzels
Just like chocolate covered strawberries, this is another snack my kids love. They adore the concept of eating a good snack that tastes amazing, but that’s a little different. One of my kids, for instance, is not a sweets fan. However, she loves pretzels if they’re half-dipped in chocolate, which is a more fun snack for her.
7. M&M Cookies
This is a great recipe, and it’s a lot more fun than other recipes. This one allows you to home make these with the kids, and let them make their own. A cute way to do this is to allow the kids to each choose a certain M&M color so they can differentiate their own cookies from everyone else. They also love it because they can compare whose are better than the others in terms of design. Who doesn’t love a competition?
8. White Chocolate Covered Strawberries
This is the same as a chocolate covered strawberry, but it’s also one that has a little twist. It’s white chocolate. My husband, for example, prefers to use white chocolate to dark. Furthermore, there is just a bit more fun added to this chocolate snack in terms of customization. My kids love to make their own white chocolate covered strawberries because they can customize them. They like to color their white chocolate, add some additional décor with writing icing, etc. It’s a lot of fun for you and the kids, and the end result is a decadent snack.
9. Chocolate Cake
It’s not so much a snack as it is a cake, but you can cut cake and make it a snack. And cake is good. Try letting your kids use smaller baking pans to make their own individual cakes. This is about more than just making a chocolate snack. It is about spending some quality time together in the kitchen, which is something kids love to do that works for everyone. They learn so much by measuring, adding ingredients, and taking care of the timer. They also get to spend quality time with you, which is a priceless moment.
10. Chocolate Cupcakes
The same concept as the above-mentioned chocolate cake, but with the added bonus of being able to decorate cupcakes and keep the snacks a little smaller. Kids can customize their own, which also makes it more fun.
11. Chocolate Trail Mix
This is a simple and easy homemade snack idea with a chocolate element. The kids will love this one because it’s a chocolate snack. You will love this one because it’s a much healthier than usual chocolate snacks. This includes anything you want it to include, too. This snack has the potential to be more fun when you add some marshmallows, too. Otherwise, you can add nuts, pretzels, crackers, and so much more. It’s all about what you want the kids to have.
12. Peanut Butter Buckeyes
Who doesn’t love a buckeye? I know some people consider them more of a holiday treat than anything else, but these are good for all seasons, all days, and all snacks. First, they’re a perfect combination of peanut butter and chocolate, and you cannot beat that. Second, they are just good. Everyone loves a decadent snack, and the recipe is simple to follow.
13. Chocolate Dipped Oreos
All right, this one is not exactly homemade. But it is close enough. Kids love Oreos. Heck, adults love Oreos, too. However, this is a simple snack that everyone might enjoy. You get a lot of chocolate with this one, but you only need a few minutes. The best way to make these is to put one of those white sticks – you know the ones that are like long lollipop sticks – in the cream between the two cookie shells of the Oreo. Then, dip the cookie into melted chocolate and put it on a piece of parchment paper to harden. You can also put it in the fridge for a few moments if you’d like.
14. Vegan Brownie Bites
Sometimes, kids need something a little healthier. You know what your own child does and does not eat, and perhaps your child is of the vegan variety. If so, these are a great alternative, but you can adjust the recipe to reflect whatever health concern you and your children have.
15. Chocolate Almond Clusters
Almonds are delicious, so this recipe is a good one. This recipe is easy to make, too, because the ingredient list is simple. Almonds are also rather healthy, so we love this recipe to trick the kids into eating something they think is a chocolate dessert, but that is actually healthier than they imagine. It’s a win-win for everyone.
16. Chocolate Covered Pecans
Much like the chocolate-covered almonds, this is another one that is a great alternative for kids who need something sweet but also salty and slightly healthier than other alternatives on the list. This one also feels like such a holiday snack. I don’t know why I associate pecans with the Thanksgiving holidays…perhaps it’s the pecan pie that is so prevalent in the fall months? Either way, this one is great, and kids love it.
17. Chocolate Mousse
Your kids might not think that they enjoy mousse, but they will if you use this recipe. Sometimes, it seems that they misconstrue it for a version of chocolate whipped cream. Some kids are confused by the consistency, and that’s all right. However, this recipe does make things a bit simpler, and it’s a recipe you can make for your kids without complaint. Once they try it, they’ll request it.
18. Chocolate Covered Bananas
One of the best things in life is melted chocolate hardened over fruit. It’s just so good, and so sweet. The chocolate makes the dessert just a touch more elegant, but the entire situation is good. While I am not a personal fan of bananas, my son loves them. You can cut them and throw the small pieces in a bowl of melted chocolate, or you can dip half of the banana in the chocolate and let it harden. There are also options. You can put a stick through the banana to turn it into a banana lollipop. Dip it in melted chocolate, and then freeze it. Now you have a chocolate banana popsicle, and that makes a perfect treat on a hot summer day. Kids love it.
19. Chocolate Covered Apples
Apples taste good with literally anything on top of them, do they not? They’re also delicious without anything on them. One of my favorite apple snacks is to slice the apples for my kids and top them with a little peanut butter and mini chocolate chips. The best apples to use for this snack are always Granny Smith. They are tart but sweet, and the flavor pairs well with the peanut butter and chocolate. If you are in the market for something a little bit sweeter, try adding just a touch of melted chocolate to the apple rather than everything else. You can freeze them and then let the kids enjoy on a warm day.
20. Frozen Yogurt and Chocolate Bark
Frozen yogurt is the best, but have you tried making your own? Greek yogurt is the best for this recipe, and the additions are easy, too. It’s a simple snack you can make at home with the ingredients you are already likely to have on hand, and the kids will enjoy it. It’s cold, delicious, and it works well for everyone because it’s also filling – and healthy. The kids won’t know their frozen treat is actually good for them, which is such a nice thing for everyone.
