Oral health and well-being go hand in hand. One cannot exist without the other, and that is why you must always strive to maintain a clean smile and fresh breath. So what are oral health problems, and do we solve them?

Typical Oral Health Issues and How to Solve Them

Cavities

Cavities are holes that develop when the enamel of the teeth gets eroded by acids mostly introduced into the mouth through sugary treats and foods. The cavity formation process does not happen in an instance but takes some time. A condition called the plaque attack is the reason behind the formation of cavities. And this occurs when the plaque bacteria in the mouth gets activated by the ingested sugar.

To sort of this oral health issue is more of a long-term solution that you and your loved ones must work on daily. One of the crucial activities that could help keep cavities at bay is watching what you consume.

You should avoid products with high sugar content like starchy foods, pastries, and carbonated drinks. For example, instead of snacking on potato chips, single grain baby cereal might work as an easy and healthy breakfast for the whole family.

Swelling and bleeding gums

When introducing oral health in the early years, you may notice red, inflamed gum, causing alarm. This could be due to rooting from an infection, nutrients deficiency, or injury to the gums or teeth and must be addressed immediately.

In case it is an infection, the appropriate medication should be taken. If it is because of a medical condition known as scurvy, due to a deficiency in vitamin C, citrus fruits and vegetables must be introduced. And if it is an injury, you should consult a dentist to access the extent.

Chronic bad breath

Oral health and quality of life are intertwined, not convinced? Just imagine having to deal with chronic bad breath that wouldn’t go away. Such a condition keeps you always on low confidence.

Possible sources of bad breath might be the lack of proper dental care routine, diet, or even an underlying medical condition like diabetes.

The first two can be sorted by adequately brushing and flossing of teeth and change of diet. But the third surely need specialized medical attention.

How to Solve Oral Health Issues Once and For All

First and foremost, make sure that everyone in your family brushes teeth regularly and correctly. Additionally, all your toothbrushes must be switched every two months. This also entails flossing after meals and, more so, reducing or stopping the intake of sugary foods altogether.

Secondly, dental check-ups should be mandatory so that hidden issues are noticed before they became worse. Lastly, if a problem persists, a dentist is the best person to assess the situation.

Oral health depends on the choices you make every day, and you can teach your kids to do the same.
